Peasant Woman by Van Gough (copied)

c. Mary Kathryn Gough, 2003-4

This is a bit crude, but one of my favorite Van Goughs — apart from the few I will hopefully be able to find sketches of somewhere. I love one or three of his paintings, yes, but his charcoal sketches of people eating or praying or mourning or just doing nothing are the ones that always catch me. Anyway, this copy is rather poor and was done overnight on a graph for enlarging the original size. Her expression is very wooden and harsh compared to the original, which had much more subtlety in it. The features didn’t turn out quite right. I really enjoyed making it though, and would like to do it again.
